Comparisons vs Rug Doctor

Bissell and Rug Doctor are both well-known brands in carpet cleaning. Both of these carpet cleaners provide top performance. Both models are powerful, commercial-grade carpet cleaners. They are designed to deal with tough stains, high-traffic dirt, and pet messes.

We tested both carpet cleaners to see which one handles stains and pet messes better. We tested both models on the same carpet. We used Bissell Big Green to clean one half of the carpet while the Rug Doctor was used to clean the other half. While testing, we followed the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning procedures and also used their cleaning solutions.

The result? The Bissell Big Green won with a little margin. However, both carpet cleaners did an exceptional job; the Rug Doctor was one step behind Bissell. The Bissell was able to completely remove stains in 3 passes, while the Rug Doctor did the same job in 4 passes.

The Bissell is a winner in drying time too. The area cleaned by Bissell started drying a little faster than the one cleaned by the Rug Doctor. On the other hand, the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 is reported to leave carpets wetter. It requires more time compared to the Bissell.

Accessories:

The accessories in the box include the machine, hose, manual, extractor, and 3 bottles of trash. For the sake of God, do not use this shampoo; it’s horrible and too bad for your carpet, and it’s definitely not approved by the Carpet and Rug Institute. Run just about anything else through this.

Build and Brush System

Now I want to talk about its bottom because it’s one of the few carpet cleaners that’s supposed to accommodate for higher pile carpet. In it you have a spring-loaded nozzle and a free-floating brush roller instead of the heavy-duty wheels. The brush roller easily comes down if you want to clean or change it. This is really well built, as it’s exhausted into the bottom, like just any other one.

The Bissell Big Green is a really good choice if you’re going to be cleaning large areas regularly
in fact the build quality is so good that it’s used for rental fleets around the country which
means that it can withstand a lot of wear and tear and still perform well for years to come

Water Efficiency & Cleaning Performance

It also has a much higher water capacity than average, holding up to 1.7 gallons of clean water. In addition to holding more water, it also uses water more efficiently than average in our tests. With the other Bissell carpet cleaners, we filled them all with the same amount of water and had them clean the same basic area. After that test, we used the Bissell Big Green to clean up after all the other carpet cleaners because it was the only one that still had water left because it used it so efficiently.

The next thing I want to talk about with the Bissell Big Green is its unsealed suction. This is the suction power where you need it most, right at the floor head, and the Bissell Big Green had by far the highest numbers we’ve seen of any other Bissell that we’ve tested.

Unlike the Rug Doctor X3, Bissell’s main competitor, the Bissell Big Green can be used both in the backward pull and the forward push, making it more efficient and easier to use. Bissell also performed their own tests comparing the Bissell Big Green to the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3, and they found that the Big Green outperformed the Rug Doctor in their stain test.

In our cleaning test, we found it performed well with both wet and dried-on stains. For our dried stains, we used a dirt mixture as well as coyote urine, which we allowed to dry for 24 hours. In our wet test, we used a glow-in-the-dark mixture as well as an ounce and a half of red wine, both of which the Bissell Big Green did really well with.

Considering its performance and efficiency even in large areas, it does seem to be well worth the price. It’s also highly efficient when it comes to water usage.

Pretreatment

Now, if you are new to carpet shampooing, you then know that this is the point where you should go vacuum thoroughly. You have to go x and y in terms of directions if that makes sense to you and vacuum every area twice, and then you have to pretreat the area again with unique shampoo or whatever you want to use. This is great for pet stains, food, and anything biological.

Dry time after use:

The dry time of this powerful Bissell carpet cleaner depends upon so many factors that include carpet thickness, humidity levels, and the flow of air in the room. The approximate drying time is 2 to 4 hours, but if the humidity level is higher, it usually takes 6 to 8 hours.

Suction Power:

Always remember sealed suction is more important for this particular application. I really want you to keep in mind that we are a mile above sea level, and a lot of motors that would be rated higher or not, I would be willing to bet, get close to 80 sealed here a mile high, only get 60. And that’s because of the motor choice, so it’s not as strong as something like my carpet extractor C4 or some of the other units that I have tested before, but it’s definitely stronger than, say, a home Bissell that usually gets 30 or 40 inches at this altitude.

Noise level:

For whatever reason, carpet cleaners rarely have sound deadening, and rarely, if ever, have any exhaust filter, so this machine is pretty damn loud. You are probably going to want a set of earplugs if you plan on doing a lot of work with this machine. The other thing I want you to note is when you put the handle in the upright position, it does stop the brush roller.

Handling:

All right. I want to take a moment and talk about the handling characteristics because its handle is down low; you don’t really feel it in your wrist, but you know that you are moving this big, heavy machine. Another thing I want to mention is that the tanks are translucent. So you can just look down easily and see how much solution you have left; that is a big advantage over a Rug Doctor, and that’s also a big advantage over other styles of machine. So I am satisfied with that so far.

Mistakes to avoid:

Never overwet your carpets. Using excessive water can prolong dryness, and it may damage fibers of carpet. On the other hand, inadequate ventilation can also lead to extended drying times. Not cleaning the machine after use can also affect efficiency.

Final thought:

Well, what are my final thoughts on the Bissell Big Green Professional? I think it does a fantastic job. I think the price of this, at least right now far less than a lot of other carpet cleaners out there, and the value is especially they continue offering that five-year warranty on parts available. The issue is it can be bulky for some users.
