Vacuuming Performance

The Roborock Q7 Max plus is equipped with 4,200 suction power. Considering its price tag of $550, the suction power is less compared to newly released models we have tested. However, It cleans well. The robot cleans intelligently by first tracing the perimeter and then moving in a zigzag pattern across the room. In one session, it took about 25 minutes to clean the living room and about 41 minutes total for all three rooms. It used only 18% of the battery during this.

One thing I like about this robot is its carpet sensors. When it detects a carpet, it automatically switches to maximum suction power. The robot is quiet enough to run without disturbing the household. My house isn’t huge. It’s about 300 to 400 sq. ft. for the living room, with a kids’ room and a master bedroom. The Roborock Q7 maps the whole house efficiently. It first does a perimeter sweep of each room and then a zigzag pattern across the floor to clean everything thoroughly.

The Roborock Q7 Max+ Automatically recognizes different floors in your home. Just place the robot down; no extra docks or manual setup is needed. It Supports up to four levels.

Mopping Performance

The mopping performance of this robot is average. The robot uses Drag-only motion (no vibration/scrubbing) to vacuum the floor. This makes it less efficient compared to newer models.

It applies 300g of downward pressure to clean the mess. The robot is equipped with an electric pump to provide water for the mopping pad. It has 30 different water levels that you can adjust from the app, or you can use the 3 available presets (Low, Medium, High).

If you are looking for a robot vacuum with better mopping performance, We recommend checking our list of best robot vacuums. It has options for every budget and need.

Water Tank and Dust Bin

The vacuum has a manually refillable water tank and a filter that requires occasional replacement. After each cleaning session, it automatically empties its contents into a dust bag located in the base station, making maintenance more convenient.

Under the Vacuum

Under the vacuum, the Roborock features a main roller brush and a side bristle brush. The roller is effective at picking up debris and hair, though it may occasionally need cleaning, which is a simple task. Additionally, the underside includes water output ports for mopping and suspension wheels that help the vacuum move smoothly across various floor types.

Self-Emptying and Dustbin

After finishing, the Q7 returns to the dock and empties itself into a dust bag in the base station. This is loud but highly effective. The dust bag holds a lot of debris, fine dust, dog hair, and particles.

If you’re lazy like me, you don’t need to empty the dustbin every day. You can go about a week without touching it. For people with a busy lifestyle, having a self-empty system can really help a lot.

App Customization

Through the app, you can view live maps and track the cleaning progress in real time. It allows you to select specific rooms or zones for targeted cleaning and create custom cleaning schedules tailored to different times and areas of your home. You can also adjust the water flow and suction power individually for each room, ensuring a more efficient and personalized cleaning experience. Additionally, the app offers different mapping views, including 2D, 3D, and Matrix mapping, which uses your phone’s camera to create a more detailed layout. You can even customize the vacuum’s behavior in each room, choosing whether it should vacuum only, mop only, or do both.

Home Mapping

The Roborock Q7 max plus is equipped with LiDAR and other sensors for precise and accurate mapping of your home. It creates both 2D and 3D structures of your home. It also supports multi-level mapping, which is something you get in premium models.

When you first use the robot, it conducts a mapping exercise. The robot emits laser pulses that reflect off walls and objects, creating a high-resolution spatial map. With LiDAR data, the app can generate a 3D floor plan, allowing you to add furniture, define zones, and optimize cleaning routines.

It accurately mapped my living room, kids’ room, and master bedroom. You can label each room and also set up no-go zones, like my kitchen or patio, to keep the robot from entering.

Comparisons With Others

The Roborock Q7 Max+ has advanced features like self-emptying, LIDAR mapping, and an efficient floor mopping system. It serves a good amount of functionality for the price. However, it doesn’t perform well in the fine debris pickup like more premium models like the Roborock S8 or Mova P10.

It’s still a good model. It’s workable, but the Q7’s cleaning system isn’t the best because of its passive design, which limits it from deeply cleaning your floors. Roborock has enhanced the mopping system in newly released mid-range models with the Qrevo Pro and Qrevo S if you are looking for better mopping performance.

The Q7 Max Plus only makes sense when it’s on sale because many of the more recent mid-range devices have better obstacle avoidance or mopping capabilities that were once exclusive to flagship models but are now common in mid-range models.

Final Thoughts

Overall, The Roborock Q7 Max Plus is a good robot vacuum. It vacuums and mops efficiently, has excellent smart features, and the mapping system is top-tier. The ability to set no-go and no-mop zones makes it even more useful. If you set no-go and no-mop zones, it performs even better. While the self-emptying is loud, it’s incredibly convenient. Scheduling cleaning makes it easy to maintain a tidy home, especially if you’re forgetful like me. One downside is that mopping performance is not good. If you are looking for a robot with good mopping performance, then this one is not for you.

The self-emptying function is a great convenience, even though it’s a bit noisy. Battery life is impressive, and cleaning performance is reliable. If you have a moderately sized home with hard floors and want a robot vacuum that just works without daily maintenance, the Q7 is a good buy, especially if it’s on discount.
