Roborock Saros Z70 Review

The Roborock Saros Z70 is Roborock’s most expensive and premium robot vacuum, which has an arm that can go and pick up and clean the entire floor. It can pick up things like slippers, different tissues, and all kinds of socks. This robot vacuum is able to clean up the entire floor without you doing anything other than starting it. This comes with an OmniGrip Mechanical Arm, Lifted Chassis, StarSight System 2.0, Smart Home Integration, and many more features, which we will discuss in today’s article.

OmniGrip Mechanical Arm

Now, this is going to benefit your life. So, first off, we have the OmniGrip mechanical arm. Now, this is so cool because it can automatically identify different objects. It’s going to pick up those that are in the way, and then it has two different places in which it can take those objects.

So, you have the dispensing bin that it comes with, and it can pick up a sock and then automatically take it to the bin and drop it in. You can then specify where a shoe placement would be. So, we have this tray that I have that goes on. You don’t have to have the tray, but you just mark a territory where it’s going to go and drop those slippers or other shoe items.

That’s so cool that you have those two ways that it can do it. And then, as it’s cleaning up, if a sock’s in its way and it’s at a time where it can clean, it’s going to pick up that sock, take it back, drop it in, and keep going so that it’s not in its way and it continues to clean.

Now, if you have Birkenstocks or slippers or whatever on the floor, it’s going to go and kind of just navigate around those and not pick them up yet. But then, once it completes the first pass, the second pass will come back, and it will then sort those items. So, it will then pick those up and take them back to the other placement.

Now, I also saw that it just picked it up and moved it out of the way so that it could then clean the spot in which the object that it was able to move was under, which was great to be able to do that.

And then you also have tissues that it can pick up and move to where you want them to go. Now, there are actually a bunch of ways in which you can use the OmniGrip arm. So, you also have the option, other than having it automatically clean up, to go into the app, and you can turn on remote viewing, and you can then drive around your home. You can see an item, and you can say, “Sort this item.” It automatically picks it up and takes it back.

Built-in Camera and Safety Sensors

A built-in camera on the OmniGrip arm lets me see exactly what it’s about to pick up. I can move the arm down, close the grip, and lift the object, all while watching through that camera. Once the object is picked up, I can send it to a specific sorting location and exit when I’m done.

For safety, there’s an emergency stop button. If the arm starts doing something unexpected, hitting that button immediately stops all movement. The system also includes multiple sensors—including two anti-pinch sensors: one at the bottom of the arm and another near the tray. These help prevent injuries and damage by detecting anything in the way and stopping the arm before contact.

FLexiArm Riser

Next, we have the Flexi Arm Riser. So, on the side, you have the spinning brush. And what that is doing is it moves out, and as it’s cleaning near corners, it’s pulling in all the dirt and putting it down into the Free Flow Roller. Now, with this design of the Flexi Arm Riser brushes, it prevents hair from getting tangled on them, and it has a 0% hair tangling rate. And then, that’s able to take all of the dirt, and even the hair and everything, so that nothing is getting caught.

So, you have the two series. You have the Flexi Arm Riser, which is taking in the dirt and putting it in the free-flow roller. And then you have the Free Flow Roller, which has this triangular design, which is able to prevent hair from getting tangled. Previously, I’ve had a lot of hair get on the side of these, but I’ve already run this through. We’ve already cleaned the floor, and there is no hair on here.

So, there’s very little maintenance on cleaning the actual robot, other than just kind of cleaning it up every once in a while. 

Lifted Chassis

Now, let’s talk about its Adapt Lift Chassis. Due to this feature, it’s able to go over something that’s 3 cm tall or something that gets up to 4 centimeters in the very middle. So, maybe if you have a little bit of a lip between one floor and the other, not a stair size, but something it needs to kind of jump over, it is able to do that. 

With the Adaptive Lift Chassis, it’s able to go over a threshold of up to 1.57 inches, or 4 cm. It’s using a combination of pushing the wheels and the chassis, and then as it gets closer to the little bump, it pushes itself over so it’s not going to get stuck and can easily transition between a regular floor to another floor, carpet to hardwood, all kinds of things built right into this robot vacuum.

Slim Design

Now, another feature that is really cool about the design is that this is RoboRock’s slimmest robot mop vacuum ever. As thin as the Saros 10R, it has all that other tech built in, which is so cool.

On the top there is no LIDAR sensor; it’s built into the front or the back. What that means is this can be lower than anything else. I’ve had other robots get stuck on furniture because of the LIDAR sensor at the top, but this has it in different places.

The height of this is actually 7.98 cm tall (3.14 inches), which makes it the thinnest robot we’ve ever had here, and again, it’s RoboRock’s thinnest robot.

So, it’s really going to have no problem getting under those couches that are a little off the ground or, in my case, different furniture that we have. It’s going to be able to go under there and vacuum clean without any issues. I love that slim design.

StarSight System 2.0

Now, I mentioned that this is using LIDAR to see where it’s going. But the system is actually way more advanced than that. This is the industry’s first Starsite Autonomous System 2.0.

What this means is that it is 21 times faster at recognizing and detecting where it’s going. Traditional LIDAR just sends one light around, but this system sends a ton of different lights into the room so it can see where it’s going and can observe in all directions at once.

It uses a combination of time-of-flight sensors, LIDAR, and 3D sensors to see exactly what it’s doing and provide much more accurate navigation.

The new Starsite system enables precise localization, comprehensive mapping, and reliable obstacle avoidance, all within a remarkably compact design.

Suction Power

Now, during the test when I set up the floor cleaning, I put all kinds of crackers and things that are typically on the floor to have them be sucked up, and it had no issue getting all of that dirt. That’s because built into here, it has 22,000 Pascals of suction power to pick all of that up and take it off your floor.

When the dustbin is full, it will automatically return to the base station and empty itself out. So, it’s going to pick up your floor without any problems.

Even when you have this on carpet, it will pick up all that invisible dirt that you cannot see. There are four different suction options, and in the Max Plus mode, it really sucks deep to get all that leftover dirt that would eventually make your carpets dirty if not cleaned.

One thing I’ve learned about having robot vacuums is that I need to vacuum my home a lot more. So, having this go out multiple times a week, whether I’m here or there, is really nice to keep dirt off the floor and out of the air.

App Features & Mopping Ability

In the app, there are tons of different options that give you total control over how this operates. Some of my favorite features are that I can have it clean and vacuum the carpet first before it wets the mop pads. But you actually don’t need to worry about that because it can automatically lift the mop pads or even take them off at the base station.

So, it goes to the base station, drops the mop pads, goes out and does all the carpet cleaning or vacuuming, then returns, picks up the dual roller brush pads again, gets them wet, and goes out to mop just the hardwood floor areas. That is one of the coolest things I’ve seen. I’ve always worried, what if it accidentally starts mopping the carpet? That wouldn’t be good.

Now, being able to do that automatically without me having to do anything really gives me peace of mind while it’s cleaning my floor. I know it’s going to do a great job.

Another feature of the roller is that it can do a side brush mop. That means as it’s cleaning, it can extend this out and clean right up next to the edge. As you can see, it’s not at the very edge of the robot, but this extension allows it to clean right along the edge of your wall, around a chair, or anywhere that’s hard to reach. It can do that with these roller mop pads.

That completes all the features of the mop pads. I didn’t think it could get any cooler, but there are so many things this can do. Once it’s done mopping, it will automatically go back, wash the mop pads at the base station, and then dry them so they’re fresh and clean, ready for the next cleaning.

Base Station

The all-in-one base station is where it makes sure everything is running properly. At the bottom, you have the area where it cleans the pads and drops the mop pads when it goes out to vacuum.

Next, there’s the dustbin, which you can easily replace when it’s full. The robot will come back to empty its dustbin into this station.

On the top, you’ll have the dirty water tank and the clean water tank. These tanks are actually quite large. Even though they’re not very deep, they are wide, so they can hold a good amount of water.

Smart Home Integration

Now, I talked a lot about different smart home products, and the good news is the Sero Z70 is compatible with Apple Home, Google Home, SmartThings, Amazon, and all those different platforms.

Also built in is its own voice assistant. “Hello, Rocky.” “Clean here.” There are a bunch of different voice commands you can use. Now, it’s going to find me and clean right where I am. That’s epic. I’d say that’s pretty accurate.

In the app, you can see all these different voice commands you can use, from cleaning to going back to the base station to pausing. This is so helpful; you don’t even have to open the app to do this. You can just ask it to do specific things, and it will.

So, you have cleaning, dot control, pause and resume, changing robot settings, and room cleaning. It’s so nice to have it all right here without needing to open the Robo Rock app.

Lastly, all of this is controlled within the Robo Rock app, from base station cleaning settings to robot settings to the dispense bin, where you place this, or where you set the location for it to take slippers back, or whatever it may be.

App Overview

Let’s dive into the app and look at a few of the settings available. So, we just need to tap “Enter,” and there we can see our map. It automatically mapped everything. I was able to go in and split up some of the rooms to have them be separated, or we can merge them to put them together.

It also kind of figured out where some of the things were. I went in and added carpets in certain areas, and it was very simple to use.

Down here, we can choose if we want to clean specific rooms, set up zones, or create different routines. And then up here at the top, we have the option to easily edit.

One of the things you can do is create no-go zones; maybe there’s an area where it might get stuck or something like that. You can just set a no-go zone. You can also add furniture and edit the surface type.

Now we also have the storage zones. You can have two storage zones. You can move it around or increase the size of that zone.

Then we have our other storage placement right here; this is where the slippers are going to be sorted. We can save those locations.

To control the mechanical arm, I had to go into the settings. I went to Robotic Arm Settings, enabled the feature, and then set up a pattern. That allows you to access this area. It’s very secure. It’s all within the app, and you need a password to get into this section.

Once you’re in, you can control it. I can easily move the arm forward. There’s also the option down here to Remote Control Pickup, and it will then extend the arms. If it doesn’t see anything to pick up, it will just put the arm back.

Up at the top here, we can even talk through the robot, which is pretty fun.

Now that we’re done, we can tap Exit. It’s going to put the mechanical arm back down. And then we can tap Dock, and it will automatically return to the dock.

Final Thoughts

This robot vacuum has higher suction power and more insane features than any other robot vacuum. It’s definitely one of the best robot vacuums we have tested.

If you are looking for the ultimate cleaning partner that has great suction power and can even sort your things like socks, toys, etc., then this robot vacuum is the best option on the market. Although it comes at a very high price point of $2599, believe me, it’s worth every penny.

It’s full of features, and its smart navigation system makes it top-notch. If you want something that can perform as well as the Saros Z70 but without the robotic arm and a few other features, then the Saros 10R is a good alternative, and it costs $1000 less than the Saros Z70.
