Roborock Qrevo Edge Review
This robot will vacuum and mop your floors at the same time. It’s got LiDAR navigation; this does a really good job of mapping your house and also obstacle avoidance, and it also has a camera on the front and reactive AI that it can use to avoid objects that are lower to the ground.
PROS:
- Excellent mopping and suction ability
- One of the best Apps out there
- Good battery life
CONS:
- Higher price point
- Small dustbin size of only 325ml
Edge cleaning Technology
In this robot vacuum, the motor will move the mop pad to the edge for edge cleaning, and it can move this side brush to the edge. It’s got a split brush roller; this helps with long hairs so hairs won’t get wrapped around the brush roller. If they do, they will be directed to the center where it’s split and then it gets sucked in. It can raise its front wheel which helps in cleaning on high-pile carpets.
It’s got a carpet sensor so it can automatically detect when it’s on carpet, and it can lift these mop pads. When it’s on carpet, it can’t leave the mop pads back at the base station; the mop pads are always attached, but the base station will wash them with hot water and dry them when it’s all done. Now, once in a while, you will have to replace these; they’re just held on with Velcro, and you can also put these in your laundry to kind of freshen them up.
Advanced Features
The docking station has some great features. One thing that is my favorite about its docking station is that when it’s cleaning, there are wiper arms that are spinning around to clean the docking station; also, the mop pads will be spun on this, and the hot water’s going to come down so the mop pads are being cleaned and the base station’s being cleaned all at once.Â
There is a sensor internally that if the water is too dirty, it’s going to tell the robot to go re-mop that area where you were just at; that’s all an automatic feature from this robot. You’re not telling it to go to the base station, and it’s going to wash that mop pad, and that’s going to get all that dirt out of the mop pad, and then it’s going to come back. If that water was really dirty, then it’s going to say, Wherever you just came from, go re-mop it, and it will mop this again, so you will get a little bit of smearing at first when you have a big mess.
Cleaning & Mopping Performance
For everyday mopping, it does an excellent job of capturing most of the everyday dust and dirt, but when you have a big mess, you will get a little smearing, but again, it will come back and do a re-mopping event, and that usually gets about 90% of the remaining dirt. Now, if you know you have a big mess, you could tell it to go and mop; you could yourself tell it to go mop this area twice.
The vacuum has 18,000 pascals of suction, and again, it also has a camera on the front. You can turn this into a robot, and you can have it go around your house. If, say, you’re in another state and you’ve got the app, you could have it go around your house, and you could look at things, and you could also have it take pet pictures, and it can go find your pets and take a picture of them. But the reason I like the camera is when it runs into an obstacle that it can’t get around, it takes a picture of it, and you’ll be able to see it in the app.
Cleaning Performance: Hair, Debris, and Carpet
It did well in the various hair tests. For example, 0% of the 7-in hair got tangled in its brushes, where the average is almost 40%, and it picked up a better than average 80% of the flattened 2 and a half inch pet hair on the carpet. Those two brushes also worked well together at sweeping up debris off the surfaces of hard floors and carpets, where they did excellent with everything tested, making it one of the best robot vacuums for pet hair. It was also much better than average with carpet deep cleaning, where we embed sand into medium-pile carpet and weigh the dustbin before and after a timed run; it performed the same in things suction and airflow tests as the Curve across the board.
Multifunctional Dock
The multi-functional dock is a huge pro; it has all the features that the other flagship robots do. It automatically empties its dustbin into a 2.7 L disposable bag, which Roborock says will last 7 weeks before needing to be changed, but it also washes its two mop pads with hot water, dries them with hot air, and refills its mop tank with water or a water solution mix. It also has slightly larger water tanks than the Curve because of the differently shaped ducks.
It has an internal dirty water sensor that detects how dirty the mop water is in order to determine how much it needs to wash its mop pads or if the floors need additional passes. It has a self-cleaning mopping tray as well as the ability to remove the tray for periodic deep cleaning of the mopping.
Battery Life
Its battery is one of the largest in the industry, with an official battery life of 240 minutes on low power. We tested it on its other power settings on a fixed floor plan and determined it to have a significantly higher than average efficiency at 1.9 minutes per percentage point and an estimated 1677 ft per charge, both of which were again nearly identical to the Qrevo curve.
Roborock App
The last pro I’ll mention is the app. It’s one of the best apps in the business. I always say it has really high ratings on the App Store door. It gives you granular control over almost all the features of the robot and the dock, and it’s updated frequently.
Obstacle Avoidance
The Roborock Qrevo Edge also has obstacle avoidance sensors, which is a huge plus. It uses the same 3D structured light plus an RGB camera system as Roborock Curve. It can recognize and avoid up to 62 objects, which is great, but fewer than its other premium competitors.Â
Talking about its obstacle avoidance performance, it’s fairly good, not perfect, but it does the job. During the testing, it avoided 70% of objects, which is almost the same as the Roborock Curv. In my opinion, Qrevo Edge is behind other premium robot vacuums like Narwal Freo Z Ultra and Dreame X50 Ultra in obstacle avoidance.
Drawbacks
Moving on to the cons, besides its lackluster obstacle avoidance, which I’ve already mentioned. The other con is about its water usage during the mop test. The Qrevo Curve uses almost double the amount of water than the Qrevo Edge does, which makes streaks much more likely with the Curve than with the Edge. This is something that I think Roborock can fix in a software update if they wanted to, but in the meantime, you should just use both of these on their lowest water settings for best results, but the bottom line is that they both use a lot of water, but the edge uses almost half as much across all its settings, which is good.Â
Final Thoughts
Overall, this is definitely one of the best robot vacuums on the market. It’s packed with a ton of features, although some users might find the price a bit steep. However, the investment can be worthwhile for those seeking efficiency and convenience in their cleaning routine. Compared to some other premium robot vacuums of similar price tag, It’s behind in obstacle avoidance. If you want the best obstacle avoidance robot vacuum, you should consider the Narawal Fero Z Ulta.Â
But if you are looking for a premium robot vacuum with great suction power and cleaning performance and better pet hair pickup, then the Roborock Qrevo Edge is still one of the best options.
