Umer is a writer covering robot vacuums, with a passion for making home maintenance effortless and efficient. When not testing the latest tech, he’s fine-tuning his own robotic setup for best performance.

Most robot vacuums that we tested are able to clean pet hair easily, but when it comes to cleaning long hair, they often struggle with tangles and clogs. If you or someone in your home has long hair, you might know how easily it can get stuck in your robot vacuum. Long hair can easily wrap around robot vacuums, resulting in less suction power and jamming other moving parts. Plus, the robot vacuum needs more manual maintenance.

Traditional vacuums often struggle with this issue, but some of the newer models have overcome this issue. These robot vacuums have special brushes to tackle long pet hair and human hair.

To help you choose the right one, we have tested more than 30 robot vacuums. We have created a list of the best vacuums for long hair, including some budget options as well.

  3. Narwal Freo Z Ultra
  4. Roborock Qrevo Curv

Roborock Saros 10R

($1599.99)

The Roborock Saros 10R is the thinnest Roborock ever, with a height of 3.14 inches. It’s packed with tons of awesome features. This robot vacuum has an upgraded navigation system and stronger suction power than before. The Saros 10R is one of the most powerful vacuums we have tested. The obstacle avoidance in this vacuum is top-class. It can recognize 108+ types of objects.

The hair removal technology in this vacuum is great. I’ve tested many robot vacuums over the past years, and they all have their own ways of removing tangles. However, I think Roborock has got it right with the Saros 10R. This vacuum has a dual anti-tangle system with a dual-division main brush and flexiarm riser side brush. They both work together to ensure a zero-tangle guarantee.

During our testing, this vacuum was able to pick up all the hair from the floor, and then when I turned over the vacuum cleaner, there was no hair wrapped around the brush. So, these brushes are definitely effective in eliminating tangles.

  • Star Sight Autonomous 2.0 accurately maps your home

If you’re looking for a premium robot vacuum that excels at handling high thresholds and picking up pet hair, then the X50 Ultra is for you. What sets this robot apart is its innovative ProLeap system. It allows this vacuum to climb high thresholds.

The vacuum is equipped with a versalift retracting lidar that improves clearance under furniture. It also features a HyperStream Detangling DuoBrush, combining rubber and bristles for enhanced cleaning performance.

The Dreame X50’s dual roller system shines when it comes to handling hair tangles. This vacuum is a major win for homes with pets or long-haired residents like mine. Hair tangles are usually a problem, especially with rollers that include bristles, but I’m pleased to report that in my testing, both the side brush and dual roller system managed to avoid any hair wrapping around them.

roborock qrevo curv robot vacuum

Roborock Qrevo Edge S5X

($1149.99)

The Roborock Qrevo Edge will vacuum and mop your floors at the same time. It has LiDAR navigation. This vacuum does a really good job of mapping your house. The obstacle avoidance in this vacuum is also great. It has a camera on the front and uses reactive AI to avoid objects that are lower to the ground.

The Qrevo Edge did well in various hair tests. It picked up a better-than-average 80% of the flattened 2 and a half inch pet hair on the carpet. The brushes also worked well together at sweeping up debris off the surfaces of hard floors and carpets. It was also much better than average with carpet deep cleaning, where we embed sand into medium-pile carpet and weigh the dustbin before and after a timed run; it performed the same in suction and airflow tests as the Curve across the board.

Reasons to buy:

  • 0% hair tangle rate
  • Excellent mopping and suction ability
  • Good battery life

Reasons to avoid:

  • Higher price point

Deebot T50 pro omni robot vacuum

Deebot T50 Max Pro

($999.99)

The Ecovacs Deebot T50 Max Pro Omni is a smart robot vacuum that builds on Ecovacs’ advanced cleaning technology. It provides strong suction (18,500) and smart mapping in a slim design. The angled bristles are directed inward toward the center of the brush, creating a centripetal force as it spins. Important Features To Consider

When choosing a vacuum for long hair, you should consider these features, like adjustable bin-emptying frequency, obstacle avoidance, and other pet-related features.

Adjustable Emptying Frequency

If you have long hair or multiple pets in your home, then having the feature to adjust how often your vacuum returns to its base to empty its bin is important. This feature makes sure that the vacuum doesn’t get overloaded with hair. Set a high frequency if there’s too much mess.

Obstacle Avoidance

This is one of the most important features you should look for when buying a robot vacuum. If your vacuum is not equipped with better obstacle avoidance, then it may get stuck very often and require manual assistance. Robot vacuums with advanced obstacle avoidance can easily navigate around cables, pets, and other toys.

Adjustable Emptying Frequency

Some robot vacuums, like the Saros 10R, Dreame X50, and Roborock Qrevo Curv, are equipped with a front-facing camera that supports obstacle avoidance and video calling. These extra features can enhance the overall experience for pet owners.
